چکیده
Despite the advocation of fistula first strategy, over 80 % incident dialysis patients initiate with tunnelled catheters (TDC) and 30 remain catheter dependent. related blood stream infection (CRBSI) is a dreaded complication reported incidence rate 1.1 to 5.5 per 1000 days. Conventionally management CRBSI includes IV antibiotics along antibiotic lock solution. this 30-50 require removal, especially in setting staphylococcal, pseudomonas, fungal infection. Literature does mention benefit alcohol locks solution but there no published data on its use. This study aimed compare efficacy safety 70% (ACL) vs management. All TDC as vascular access were followed for CRBSI. was diagnosed if appropriate clinical patient had two cultures (from venous hub circuit or peripheral vein) positive same organism other obvious focus infection.During received either instilled after each session which 3 consecutive If became asymptomatic days, kept remained symptomatic even days therapy hemodynamic compromise, removed. 225 duration 24010 34 developed Twenty (Group A) 12 B) ACL instead lock. Demographic profile group A & B given table 1. Group 11 males females mean age 61.36 ± 8.54 years. 5 7 58 16.94 Of 22 A,15 required removal B, none (P= 0.0095 ). After follow up 84.16 44.62 relapse any dysfunction. Based our pilot study, we found be far superior than effect performance life short term follow-up. We recommend during episodes.

Minocycline-EDTA lock solution prevents catheter-related bacteremia in hemodialysis.
There is growing concern about the development of antibacterial resistance with the use of antibiotics in catheter lock solutions. The use of an antibiotic that is not usually used to treat other serious infections may be an alternative that may reduce the clinical impact should resistance develop. We conducted a randomized controlled trial to compare a solution of minocycline and EDTA with the...
متن کاملAntimicrobial activity of a novel catheter lock solution.
Intravascular catheter-associated bloodstream infections significantly increase rates of morbidity and hospital costs. Microbial colonization and development of biofilms, which are known to be recalcitrant to antibiotic therapy, often lead to the loss of otherwise patent vascular access systems. We evaluated a new taurolidine- and citrate-based catheter lock solution (Neutrolin; Biolink Corpora...
متن کاملConcentrated Sodium Citrate (23%) for Catheter Lock.
For chronic central venous dialysis catheters, the standard method for maintaining catheter patency between treatments is to instill (lock) catheters with 5000 - 10 000 units of heparin in each lumen. Sodium citrate (citrate) is an anticoagulant with intrinsic antibacterial activity (at 20% concentration or higher). Citrate has only transient anticoagulant effects if accidentally infused to the...
متن کاملTaurolidine-citrate-heparin catheter lock solution reduces staphylococcal bacteraemia rates in haemodialysis patients.
BACKGROUND Infection is second only to cardiovascular disease as a cause of death in the haemodialysis (HD) population. AIM : To assess the effect of introducing catheter lock solution taurolidine-citrate-heparin to all tunnelled central venous catheters (TCVCs) on staphylococcal bloodstream infection rates in patients on chronic HD. DESIGN Observational, prospective analysis of the inciden...
متن کاملChelator-based catheter lock solutions in eradicating organisms in biofilm.
Two different chelator-based antimicrobial catheter lock solutions, methylene blue-citrate-parabens (MB-CIT) and minocycline-EDTA-25% ethanol (M-EDTA-25% ETOH), were compared in 2-h biofilm eradication experiments. Eradication of both mature and immature Gram-positive, Gram-negative, and fungal biofilms was assessed. M-EDTA-25% ETOH was able to fully eradicate all biofilms within 2 h. MB-CIT wa...
